EMDR Therapy in Portland,
and across Oregon and California
When you know your patterns but still feel stuck
Helping you move from looping thoughts and body tension to grounded clarity and real relief.
You’ve done the therapy. You’ve read the books. You have insight.
But still — the anxiety hits.
The shame spirals.
The looping thoughts that say: “Why did I say that?”
“I should be over this.”
“I’m too much.”
You’re tired of being stuck in your head — and even more tired of how it shows up in your body.
Your chest tightens. Your stomach twists. Your heart beats faster.
You go numb in conversations or feel a sudden urge to get away — even from people you love.
You snap, cry unexpectedly, or just shut down.
And you think: “I know I’m okay… so why hasn’t my body caught up.”
Maybe a friend or therapist mentioned EMDR. You’re curious… but unsure.
You’ve been told it’s different — deeper — but what does that even mean?
All you know is that talk therapy hasn’t touched the tension that lives in your body.
How EMDR Helps You Heal (In a Different Way Than Talk Therapy)
EMDR is different — because it’s designed to go deeper than words.
It helps your brain and body process what got stuck, so you’re no longer living in fight, flight, or freeze.
You don’t have to relive everything. You don’t have to explain it all perfectly.
You just need to notice what comes up — and I’ll help you follow it, gently and safely, together.

First, we work through a preparation process where I teach mindfulness and grounding techniques that can be used in moments of distress. We'll also pinpoint the specific areas of your experience that you're finding the most troubling.
How does it work?
2
As we move forward, we'll focus on decreasing the intensity of these experiences by briefly bringing them to mind and using bilateral stimulation (body-based techniques like tapping or eye movement) to help reprocess and reorganize the memory.
3
We'll then collaborate on the integration of your future life vision with more helpful and positive beliefs. It's not magic - but it might feel like it. It's the use of your body's own ability to heal so that you can become unstuck and your memories become manageable.

It depends and we’ll decide this together. But I recommend meeting weekly to start. As growth goals are met we’ll reduce frequency to every other week, then to monthly until we decide our work is done. My goal isn’t to create reliance on me but to support you through connection you to your own internal and external community resources.
I do encourage meeting weekly for at least for the first 3 sessions.

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It has been found to be beneficial for a range of concerns including PTSD, anxiety, grief and loss, depression and pain. It works through a brief focus on the traumatic event or disturbance while engaging in bilateral stimulation like eye or body movements. You can read more here.

I ask that you let me know at least 24-hours in advance of the need to cancel so that I may offer the spot to someone else and plan accordingly. If you cancel with less than 24-hours notice you will be charged the full session fee. Please note that this fee is typically not covered by insurance if seeking reimbursement.

This is okay. And just like any relationship sometimes it happens.
One of the most impactful factors for therapy outcomes is a positive connection, trust, and alignment. If me or the type of therapy doesn’t feel like a fit I always welcome a conversation. In the end, this is your care and I will support you in transitioning to another care provider if needed.
